Kincer Thesis and Outline

Thesis: Frances E. W. Harper based lots of her works of literature, including Minnie's Sacrifice, on racial and gender biases that she faced in her own life.

 

Outline:

1. Introduce Frances E. W. Harper and some of her works of literature

2. Introduce Minnie's Sacrifice and its underlying racial and gender themes

3. Relate racial themes from Harper's life to Minnie's Sacrifice

4. Relate racial themes from Harper's life to Minnie's Sacrifice

5. Close read the artifacts (painting & picture of Harper) and relate them back to her works

6. Introduce Harper's other works of literature with racial and gender themes

7. Explain that not much research has been done on Harper or her literature - which leaves it open to interpretation and discussion

8. Relate Harper's struggles to her works of literature

9. Tie together the racial and gender themes with the time period

This looks like a good biographical reading and this is a good working thesis (you may want to think of ways to make it more specific as you write the paper).
