The Root Of It All

Power caused people to pursue a variety of different things in this play. In a larger sense, it caused nation to fight against nation. In the smaller sense, it could even drive people in their sexual lives. This is evident in the play because Gallimard is constantly trying to come out "on top" because from a very young age he has experienced a loss of power. This is especially true in the sense that he never really felt like the other "men" he was around growing up (Hwang, Pg. 12). It was this thirst for control that drove him to do the things that he did.
